Overcritical rant: Who cares if Chris Brown deleted his Twitter account?

chrisbrown promo shot

I know I keep talking about Twitter a lot. Twitter has its advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, it is a social networking site. You meet people, network and possibly ask others to contribute to your blog, find out about events, exchange music links, etc.. Twitter is helpful to me as a blogger, because it automatically posts up links and other followers can check it out.

However, when it comes to celebrities on Twitter (and I have mentioned this before), they are either primadonnas or just as lame as your average person. First of all, they don’t follow you back. (Weep.) Secondly, aside from promoting their latest work, they just rant and act like divas (particulary the men) when they feel something is unjust. Why did Chris Brown need to announce that he was deleting his account? Was all of this necessary? Besides, I can think of a few celebs who should quit Twitter ASAP.

“Chris Brown’s irate state of mind, as displayed over the weekend in a series of angry tweets, came to an end Monday afternoon (December 14) when the embattled R&B artist abruptly canceled his Twitter account and abandoned tens of thousands of followers.

“I WANNA THANK MY FANS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT,” Brown posted on his @MechanicalDummy account, moments before it was deleted. “I LOVE YALL. GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!”

On Friday, Brown went to the social-networking hub to express anger over certain retailers he claimed were “blackballing” his new album, Graffiti. As Brown is attempting to return to prominence following his February assault against then-girlfriend Rihanna, he claimed, “Major stores are blackballing my CD. Not stockin the shelves and lying to customers,” asking on his Twitter page, “What the f— do I gotta do…”

Over the weekend, the 20-year-old continued his attacks on music retailers, telling his Twitter followers that he had gone into a Walmart and discovered that his record wasn’t even available for purchase. “Just was at Walmart in Wallingford CT, 844 north colony,” Brown tweeted Saturday night. “The[y] didn’t even have my album in the back … not on shelves, saw for myself.” Brown said he talked to the store’s managers and “they didn’t even know anything. Wow!!! But they had Alicia Keys album ready for release for this Tuesday comin … the manager told me that when there are new releases it’s mandatory to put em on the shelves … BUT NO SIGN OF #GRAFFITI. BS.” ” (source)

It just sounds to me like he’s having a hissy fit and needs a hug. You don’t hear 50 Cent b-tching and moaning on Twitter about his low record sales…..

Besides, Walmart is notorious for pulling albums off shelves if it’s deemed too vulgar or endorses violence and sex. Not saying that Walmart intentionally didn’t pull CB’s album, but come on! It’s Walmart!!! What does he expect?

I agree with your comments about celebs on Twitter but I also think that news media and publications blow that ish way out the water. He has the right to quit Twitter like anyone else.

Well I don’t think it’s fair to play tricks with his album. His album is good. A lot of people put hard work into that album it’s not fair to those people. Chris Brown’s album should be allowed a fair chance.

I think he made the right choice in deleting his account. Chris Brown is just a 20-year-old young adult & though he is an adult the negative comments he has encountered over twitter are highly impressionable on a young mind. On second thought once Chris is done with touring & promoting the album he should just get away for awhile with just his thought. In terms of his album, I hope that retailers aren’t blackballing his album while selling albums by Ozzy Osbourne.
