Lil’ Mama apologizes for insensitive comment on “America’s Best Dance Crew”

Hmmm.

Well, I was wondering when Lil’ Mama would get around to apologizing. I also wonder if she saw Kid Fury’s video because her comments did seem a bit harsh and insensitive (you know, the “you were born a man and you’re acting like a bird” comment). Hmph. Honestly, gender and/or sexual preference should not have anything to do with a performance. I wonder if she would DARE say something like that to Rupaul. Seriously, this has got to stop. Most of us learned a whole lot of dancing, modeling, voguing, posing from who? Gay and transgendered men! And that is my two cents on that comment.

So she issued an apology to GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). I wonder if they will accept?

“I would like to clarify anything that was misunderstood from Sunday’s show. My remarks were never meant to be disrespectful regarding Leiomy’s gender nor offensive to the LGBT community, which has been a community that has supported me in all my endeavors. However, in hindsight, I recognize that my words may have come across as hurtful. I spoke with her privately after the taping to express that it was not my intent to offend her or any member of the transgender community and that I still live for Vogue Evolution.” (source)

Why do celebrities continue to do this? Why do they continue to say stuff that doesn’t seem insensitive at first and not realize that a) it is insensitive to others and b) there will always be a backlash to follow? People need to think before they speak sometimes.

And another thing, I like Vogue Evolution. However, I do feel that Shane Sparks and JC Chasez seem a tad bit uncomfortable with a gay/transgender dance group. Is it me or do I feel like they are trying to choose their words carefully when they are critiquing their dance routine? Hmmm…..

I agree with you on this post to the max, I am also waiting for Shane to come out and say that he’s gay anyways, if I havent missed that announcement already..

I think I knew what she meant by the “bird” comment. I think she was just saying don’t act like…a bird…a chicken head…lol…I don’t think she came off disrespectful…I saw her point but perhaps it could have been phrased differently.

I know I am going to come off as insensitive, but all she did was state a fact…
shrug.

No apology was needed in my opinion. I think Lil Mama’s comments were taken the wrong way. Signed, Sealed, Delivered! It’s time to move on.
