Usher’s ex: “Black women don’t love themselves, therefore they didn’t like me.”

tameka and usher

Sigh. Are we still talking about light skinned/dark skinned?

Are we still in the mindstate of that movie “School Daze” where there are the “jiggaboos” and the “wannabes”? Honestly, I am over it. Just over it. Besides, the “light skinned” era is overrated and played out (yes, I said it!). As long as we have videos that glorify “exotic” women and Yung Berg’s infamous statement about dark butts and a pool test, the whole light skinned/dark skinned controversy will never end, will it?

I already know about Usher’s ex-wife and her so called blog about dark skinned women (I don’t want to go there as far as whether or not she plagiarized a blog). However, I  just feel like she is trying to ruffle up some feathers the way Yung Berg did. Does this sound like a bitter old woman? To me, it just sounds like she wasn’t comfortable with herself and her marriage, therefore, she needed to lash out.

“In an interview in the October issue of Upscale magazine, the former Mrs. Usher Raymond recounts how she was savagely judged by bloggers because, as she puts it, she didn’t fit the image of the kind of woman people thought Usher should marry.

“I understand where all the negativity comes from,” she told the magazine. “Unfortunately I think that some black women are — subconsciously — not in love with the image they see in the mirror. Therefore in turn they do not love someone like me. I look too much like them.”

“They would definitely have preferred my husband marry someone more exotic looking. I was not given a fair shot,” she explained. “People passed judgment without getting to know me. How can you get the entire concept of who I am from a blog?”

“The dissolution of marriage is always upsetting,” she said. “You have the expectation that it will work. But, you know what? It didn’t work. But he’s (Usher) a great guy. I will always love him.” (source)

So is she blaming the blogs and society for the dissolution of her marriage? Sounds like it to me. That’s like me blaming the bartender for getting me drunk off of those Grey Goose apple martinis. Hmph.

As for Tameka entertaining the thought of the media wanting Usher to marry an exotic woman, if that is not screaming insecure, then I don’t know what is.

Although it may scream some insecurity on her part, my own eyes witnessed the displeasure of certain people when Usher first introduced her as his wife. Many thought that she was basic while others said she was ugly. Tameka has a point in that the light & dark skinned women still receive different treatment. Look no further than HOLLYWOOD to see my point. How many sisters of Gabrielle Union’s complexion do you see? What about those of Alex Wek’s complexion? That is not by accident I may add. Also if Usher married someone along the lines of Amerie or Kimora Lee there would have been more approval from the press & even his fans. Though the stigma isn’t as serious as it was in the 80s there are still remnants of it.

I’m going to be honest in saying when I say Tameka I thought she looked average and aged (not old). She did not fit the Hollywood look. She looked like his mom’s sister. At the same time she has no place to say that black women don’t like themselves because she was having plastic surgery to look more like the caucasion persuation – skinny (excuse my spelling). She does not like herself so I feel like she has no right to say that some black women dont like themselves. Some white, asian, indian etc don’t like what they see when they look in the mirror but that is for them to say not her. I hope Usher find someone closer to him in age and has the same values as he does. GOOD LUCK USHER!

LadyB I have to agree with you. Temeka don’t like herself that’s why she was sneaking overseas behind Usher’s back to get plastic surgery. So she needs to point that finger at herself and be quiet. She sounds like a very desperate-bitter women who have lost her position and mad about it.

I guess SHE of ALL people would be the spokes model for “black girls” not liking themselves. B/C she is the epitome of what she’s referring to. While she DOES have good points, she needs to do herself a favor and take her OWN advice. bitchsitdown.com
