Model wins lawsuit against Google, should bloggers watch what they say?

 l cohen

Celebrities are mad as hell and they’re not going to take it anymore!

Ever since Gabrielle Union threatened to sue a certain website for negative comments about her, everyone has been coming out of the woodwork expressing their distaste for bloggers. Remember T-Boz and how pissed off she was with bloggers? Remember that episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta where Kandi (from Xscape) was reading a blog and was visibly upset at the blogs questioning her relationship with her fiancee?

Now Liskula Cohen has won a lawsuit against Google and is now moving forward to file a lawsuit against the blogger (of a blog  that no longer exists) for defamation. Is this taking this a bit too far? The least that the bloggers had to worry about: if the pictures or music were posted on their site and if they didn’t want it there, they would ask you to take it down. No harm, no foul, right? But now if you call a celebrity a derogatory name, they get their lawyers on you. Hmmm.

“In a precedent-setting case that will no doubt have far-reaching consequences in the burgeoning field of blogging (and fashion blogging in particular), cover model Liskula Cohen sued none other than Google for the right to unmask the blogger who maligned her — and won.

Cohen is now entitled to file a defamation lawsuit against the writer behind the now-defunct blog “Skanks in NYC,” who called the model a “skank,” “psychotic,” and worse in a blog post months ago. But here’s the kicker: Turns out Cohen already knew the anonymous blogger.” (source)

Seriously? She already knew who the blogger was all along? This sounds like some high school/Myspace sh-t.

Again, I say that there are good bloggers and there are some nasty ones. There are also sloppy ones. But they all have an opinion (I don’t know if calling someone a “skank” can be considered an opinion, but I digress).

We are so quick to cry out, “whatever happened to free speech”? I guess in some ways, we are still not free to speak our minds, whether it’s online or in public.

The truth hurts. If you do not want to be called a skank don’t act like one. FYI I can see her nipple in this pic.

…i hope she does not win the suit. though i try to refrain from being nasty (i’m sarcastic at best), celebs are public figures, and well…people should be able to state their OPINIONS, however if a blog is making up outright lies…that’s a different story
