First of all, how did I miss this precious quote from Kanye?

Secondly, my blog wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Kanye West here and there. I find it amazing that Michael Jackson isn’t even buried yet and we are talking about, of all things, who will take his throne as the new King of Pop. We are so selfish.

Kanye sure didn’t waste any time voicing his opinion and I think this is by far, the second most controversial thing he has ever said (next to “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”). This is certainly not the time to shine just yet, Kanye, nor is the time to be a celebrity.

“You know everyone loves and respects Michael but times change. It’s so sad to see Michael gone but it makes a path for a new King of Pop and I’m willing to take that on. There’s nobody who can match me in sales and in respect so it only makes sense for me to take over Michael’s crown and become the new King,” said West. “First there was Elvis, then there was Michael, now in the 21st century its Kanye’s time to rule. I have nothing but respect for Michael but someone needs to pick up where he left off and there’s nobody better than me to do that. I am the new King of Pop.” (source)

I understand that we are all influenced by MJ one way or another, but sometimes we should just leave well enough be. I’m surprised there aren’t any American Idol auditions as to who would be the King (or Queen) of Pop.

Is Kanye taking his arrogance a bit too far?
