Is Nia Long is calling out Beyonce on her acting?

nialongbeyonce-academy-awards

When will the saga ever end between actors and singers, actors and rappers and models and actors?

We all know that Beyonce is multi-talented and has her hand in everything, but Nia Long isn’t too thrilled about singers and rappers trying to act, etc. (Funny, she didn’t call out Ice Cube when she was in the movies “Boyz in the Hood” and “Friday”, huh?) But does she have a point?

“I didn’t see ‘Obsessed,’ so I can’t comment, but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore. It’s about, ‘How much box-office revenue will this person generate?’ When you see certain people – we won’t name names – they just don’t have the skill, and no one in their team has said, ‘You need acting classes,’” Long replied.

“If you take time to develop your craft, God bless you. Jamie Foxx is an example of both [actor and singer],” she added. (source)

Now some may argue that J-Lo can’t sing or act, but guess what? She somehow ended up making a few albums and getting paid a lot of money to make movies, right? We already know what happened to Mariah Carey’s movie attempt at “Glitter”, and we know that Madonna can’t act (sorry). So is Nia right for saying that actors and rappers should stick to their craft?

Just sayin, Nia you ain’t that serious either so…I don’t get it. I mean I’m a Beyonce stan and I’ll admit she does need some work but she’s been getting better. And honestly, sometimes she’s just cast next to superstars (Jamie, Eddie, Adrien Brody, Idris, and the surprise J-Hud) so really, next to them she holds her own. She doesn’t wow you all the time but, she gets the job done.

And Nia, once again, you ain’t won no Oscars either. Nia doesn’t seem to have that serious acting quality. She’s just the side kick and cute girlfriend. I’d pay no money to see her star in a movie. Sorry for the harsh words but, Nia ain’t on her ish enough to smack no Angela, Cicely or even Gabby could. Those are the star of the movie.

I meant to say Nia ain’t on her ish enough to talk smack. Now, Angela, Cicely, or even Gabby could.

@ Loud Pen, I don’t think Gabby is available to blast singers because she is too busy blasting bloggers lol….

Nia must have needed the press…Beyonce stay writing her haters checks, all they have to do is mention her name!

I agree with Quick. As much as people rant and rave about hating Bey, her name is always in their mouth. I mean I only like Rihanna for fashion and I’ve posted about her once on my blog. ONCE.

Ciara, Ashanti, and the others get no love. So, to Nia I say…go get ur own movie.

My thing is. I have no issue with singers/rappers branching out. I mean they are entertainers and entertainment isn’t just one genre but she does have a point. I feel that if you are going to branch out you should study that craft so that you can be just as good at it as you are at singing/rapping. ya know? I don’t think she was hating, I think as a person that studied her craft for years she feels some kind of way when someone comes in that can’t act or isn’t as good gets the gig just because she can sell seats. I think it’s bigger than Nia’s or Beyonce’s acting ability. It boils down to not having the best actress/actor for a certain part just because they sell tickets. Yes they make money but in the end the quality of the movie suffers. Just my opinion. Hate it or love it.

I think it’s great when actors branch out into the music business & vice versa. I think Alicia Keys has done well in the movies I’ve seen her in. Ludacris has acted decently in the three movies I’ve seen him in. I think Nia Long makes a point though in that some of these artists don’t put in the necessary time nor have the raw materials to be good actors/actresses. Then you have Jennifer Hudson who was a singer by trade, but wowed everyone with her “Dreamgirls” performance w/o prior acting experience. That’s natural talent & I think that should be sought out over who could bring people to the theatres. But this is corporate America we live in so that will NEVER happen.
