Mary J. Blige and Madea? Hmmm….

Does anyone remember Mary J. Blige in a movie years ago called “Prison Song” with Q-Tip? The reason I ask is because I am wondering if she had the acting chops then.
It’s not to say that she can’t act (let’s face it, there are some singers and rappers that can’t act AT ALL), but I wonder if casting her in a Tyler Perry movie is best. There is too much negative criticism about his movies and his “Madea” character, so will being in his movie help or hurt her career? And will you be checking it out when the movie comes out?
“Mary J. Blige is set to star in Tyler Perry’s forthcoming Lionsgate film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself.” Scheduled for nationwide release September 11, 2009, the film also stars Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson.
Based on Perry¹s stage play of the same name, the film centers around Blige’s character Tanya, a nightclub manager, and her good friend April, played by Henson. Also part of the cast is Perry’s comedic alter ego, Madea. Principal photography is already under way at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.” (source)
(Why September 11th though? Sheesh!)
The title of the movie sounds like a potential song of hers, doesn’t it? Can’t you picture her singing the title soundtrack?

GASP! I love Mary J. Blige to death. Her music still inspires me including the songs she recorded almost two decades ago. This movie may have disaster written all over it unless Madea somehow is the Krazy Glue that keeps eveything stuck together. We’ll see, but they should change the release date though!
