LL Cool J’s clothing line needs love.

I guess celebrities and clothing lines don’t gel together, huh? Wasn’t it a month ago when we heard about Andre 3000′s clothing line not doing so well and that he had to cut the cost of his clothing by 50%?
It seems like LL’s clothing line is taking a big nose dive as well. He should continue to lick his lips, show us his hardbody (while he’s still got it) and venture into something else like his fitness books. Clothing lines by celebrities are not the way to go with this recession! At least his was affordable, it was in Sears, for goodness sakes!
“As for LL, it’s been a pretty short ride considering Sears invested millions in advertising, merchandising and royalties to launch the clothing line just a short six months ago. Similar to what Barney’s was doing with the Bixby line, Sears is now selling the LL clothing line apparel for as much as 50% off to clear inventory and to make up for the 13% in year-over-year losses.” (source)
No disrespect to LL, but the minute he launched his clothing line with all the bedazzling detail, I instantly thought, “Ed Hardy” ripoff and “Party Like a Rockstar” clothing. (Aren’t we over the whole bedazzled look anyhow?)

Hey!!!
Dre’s clothes were too expensive to start with. There were some fly pieces but way to expensive for the average fan like me to go cop an entire fit. Maybe a piece here and there but that’s about it. Now for LL, I haven’t seen anything in the stores that caught my eye, but I’ve seen some of his pieces in advertising and such and that stuff was cool. Why is it that what the artist(s) where from their line never makes it to the store? that’s always what we’re checking for because it’s the dopest!!

It is becoming harder to open a clothing line since the market is so saturated. In terms of urban apparel by Hip Hop entrepreneurs , that market has pretty much been locked up by Rocawear, Sean John, and Phat Farm beforehand. LL tried his hand at clothing by putting his clothes in a place like Sears instead of Macy’s or Loehmann’s. It sounded like a great plan, but people like myself don’t shop for clothing in Sear’s, and parents weren’t too keen his clothing. It was doomed to tank.
