Andre 3000′s clothing line is not doing so well.

andre3stacks

I knew that Andre 3000 had his own clothing line and was wondering what happened to it. But I didn’t think it was that serious? He had to cut costs on his own clothing line because no one was buying it. (Let’s be honest for a second, would you really pay all that money to look like Andre 3000? You’re better off going to Salvation Army or have some “Project Runway” reject for that!) What type of material did he use to design his clothing that he had to charge so much? We hear so much about supporting black business owners, but how can we support our own when their prices are so high for a freaking T-shirt? What’s worse, most of them sometimes don’t wear their own brand!

“WoooHa.com exclusively reports that the Benjamin Bixby clothing line is facing severe financial hardships due to limited sales and excess inventory. Because Andre Benjamin paid so much attention to detail, his clothing line was not cheap to reproduce on a mass scale. Instead, limited quantities of the collection were made and sold primarily online through luxury fashion sites such as Barneys.com. The problem is no one is buying the clothing line because of the high price point and no brand equity. As a result, the Benjamin Bixby clothing line has had to dramaticly drop prices in order to move inventory and prevent retailers from shipping it all back to Mr. Benjamin.

As of last week, you can now find Benjamin Bixby clothing at Barneys for over 50% the original price. That $275 sweater vest is now $109. The $1,495 leather jacket is now $639. Over half of Barney’s inventory of the Bixby collection is now priced at over 50%. That’s not all. The clothing line is also using luxury online discount sites and clubs such as Gilt.com to move inventory as well. These sites specialize in selling deep discount off season luxury goods for a limited time.”

Dayum, even with his price cut, you still can’t afford it! WTF? Who do YOU know that shops at Barney’s (online or retail)? Don’t worry, I’ll wait, because I’ll be damned if I set foot in the store and have security following me around in hopes of looking like Andre 3000!

How much you want to be that his clothes end up at Daffy’s or Filene’s Basement somewhere? Not that there is anything wrong with either of those clothing stores, but I have seen where most of these rapper’s clothing lines go. Only a few handful have been successful with clothing lines and show no signs of slowing down. Maybe Andre 3000 needs to relaunch like Eve did (“Fetish”) and have a better marketing plan.

Yeah, people no longer have the extra money for 2 and three different wardrobes: work, club, lounging, etc… lol. And he’s asking for WAY too much money in this economy. Sorry, Dre.

Not too many designers can make it these days in the fashion world. Rocawear, Sean John, and and Akademics all started when urban fashion was vacated by the likes of Karl Kani & FUBU. Andre 3000′s line of clothes cost more than much of Ralph Lauren’s collection, and I often get followed by security when I walk through their stores. They should’ve stuck with the Outkast clothing co.
