Mya – “Paradise (video)”
Mya’s back with a new song and video “Paradise”.
This song reminds me of Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” with a reggae vibe to it. I feel like the song and video is missing something. Maybe some dancers? A background that exudes “Paradise”? Beenie Man, perhaps? (Maybe it’s my high expectations again.) Bending over and rubbing her butt against the leading man does not a video make.
Also, is it me or does her lyrics sound eerily similar to R. Kelly’s ”Snake” song? “Like two animals in the jungle making love”, hmmm….I’m beginning to wonder if we ran out of things to write about.
As for her voice, it still sounds like it’s on helium. You mean to tell me that she’s been away this long and she hasn’t stepped up her vocals at all? No range? I’ve heard people sing karaoke drunk better than this.
I’m not saying that she should be a Beyonce or a Rihanna. But this song and her vocals need work.

This song sounds similar to a plethora of songs, but the pattern in which Mya sung the song most resembles “The Girl is Mine” by Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney. Mya looks smoking hot in the video even with that muscular clown grinding on her. The song is really no prize, but it’s alright. It’s kind of a blend of her two videos for “Woah” & “Fallen.”
