Is this Oscar-worthy now?

Your favorite Virgo Beyonce is in character as Etta James in “Cadillac Records”. She said that she gained 15 pounds in order to play the singer.

Beyoncé reclaimed her bootylicious curves (and then some!) to play soul singer Etta James in the upcoming film Cadillac Records.

“I gained almost 15 pounds to play the role,” Beyoncé, 27, says in the November issue of In Style. “It was way easier – and tastier – than having to lose so much weight for Dreamgirls.” (source)

Ooookay. I’m going to need her to stop “Janet Jackson”-ing us with the gaining and the losing of the weight. Can she just pick a weight and stay with it?

I have no problem when a celebrity has to transform their appearance in order to get into character; most celebrities have done that before and won critical acclaim for doing so (Charlize Theron in “Monster”, for example, Renee Zellweger in every movie LOL). But the last time Beyonce lost weight (20 pounds, to be exact, using the Master Cleanse diet) for “Dreamgirls”, she didn’t win the Oscar. Her performance, well, I’ll reserve comment for another time. We all know who stole the show, don’t we?

So is this going to be her Oscar worthy performance since she gained weight? Better question, can she act?

We will see. It seems like she has been working pretty hard on this acting thing. I wish her the best.

I really don’t think she can act, but she will continue to get roles simply b/c of her looks & status. Jennifer Hudson is much better at acting, and in playing Etta James she would’ve had to gain more than 15 lbs b/c Etta wasn’t a small woman by an means. I don’t think it’s Oscar worthy, and transforming your appearance shouldn’t be done for Oscar notoriety either. It should be done if you believe in the role. PERIOD! Will Smith gained considerable weight when he played Muhammad Ali, and he did it b/c of the great respect he has for the boxer. He cared not whether it was Oscar worthy or not, but whether his performance was worthy of the life he was portraying.

Beyonce need to stick to what she’s good at; singing and performing. She needs to leave acting and writing to the professionals. Nia Long, and a host of other actresses could have played this role and killed it. Beyonce will just kill us overdoing it.

Hell naw, Bey can’t act. That’s why J. Hud came outta nowhere and snatched that Acedemy Award right from under her. She wasn’t even nominated. As far as the weight gain, we all know Bey is only a Popeye’s Chicken thigh away from looking like her Mama Tina’s big a$$ (HAHAHA). She enjoyed every morsel she put into her mouth! Bey’s voice is nowhere near the sound tha Etta James kicks out and it was only for the draw of her name, not her talent. Bey will since every song of Etta’s in her own key and not in Etta’s so that defeats the whole purpose of having her play Etta James in the first place. I would’ve rather them try to get away with Jennifer Hudson, depsite the fact that she’s a bit darker, but she would be more believable. Sit down Bey!
