Is it that serious? I didn’t know this even took place. When did Louis Vuitton file a lawsuit against Da Brat and Ruben Studdard for using their logo/monogram in their videos without permission? And pardon my French, but I call BULLSHIT. This sounds like some racist crap, don’t want black people using your name brand in your videos.
Louis Vuitton won an undisclosed out-of-court settlement Thursday after a five-year Paris court battle against three of MTV’s familiar faces – Britney Spears, Da Brat and “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard.
The company sued Sony BMG Music Entertainment for allowing its artists to use the famous LV monogram in music videos and album covers.
“We believe the terms of this agreement will provide strong protection to our brand worldwide,” Louis Vuitton’s Nathalie Moulle-Berteaux said in a statement.
And artists can’t keep up the trend popularized by Studdard – who in 2006, printed his album jacket for “The Return” CD on Louis Vuitton monogram paper.
The fight for the settlement, estimated at more than $300,000, began after Vuitton sued Sony in 2003 for allowing Da Brat to bounce around in a video with a multicolored LV print beachball.
Next thing you know, they’re probably going to start suing if you even mention their name. They should be flattered that someone would want to wear their brand. Whatever.

That’s absolute bullshit. They want people to know their products, and they know damn well that their profits probably soared when these artists showed the logos via video to millions of video. Some people don’t even buy these expensive name brands unless they see their favorite celebrity in them.

Is he more upset because the branded products were not true Louis Vuitton (ie – the beachball and cd cover) or is it that he doesn’t want his product being marketed to black people. I would go with the former just because they are working with Kanye West on a shoe line or something so I cant call em’ racist. But if someone was running around with my monogram on some junk I didn’t make, i’d be pissed too. People love free advertising, but we ALL know Louis Vuitton dont make beach balls lol..dont call racisit just yet, they are protecting their business and their brand
