Because they probably don’t make them like me anymore.

I got a text message (I am addicted to my latest love, the Blackberry Curve) from a male friend who recently relocated from New York to…..well, that’s not the point. Conversation was good until he said something half joking, half serious, “when are you gonna have my child?”

The hell?

I know what most of my readers are thinking, Mz. Virgo, where in the hell do you find these people? Because they come up with the most outlandish shyt to say. But I digress, it’s not about them.

I text back that I’m not ready for kids when I should have avoided the conversation altogether and he tells me that I’m “too old to be scared to have a kid”, along with, “what, I’m not good enough?” Eh? Without telling too much of his business, he has about 6 kids, all before the age of 33. His oldest is 15 and he was kind of bragging about how he loves to grow with him, etc., etc.

That conversation, if you want to call text messaging that, made me uncomfortable, because he’s not the first one to ask when I was going to have a baby. And I often wonder, why are men that I’ve never dated asking me this instead of someone like, let’s say, my mother, my father or my grandmother?

And what is wrong with someone who doesn’t have kids? I don’t have anything against anyone who has kids, but it seems like the older I get, the pickings are rather slim because men have ready made families. Men complain about not wanting a woman with multiple kids by multiple men, but yet, here I am with no kids and I get the questions of “how come?” or “you do want kids someday, don’t you?” or “When?”

Well, here is one simple answer to answer all those questions. How about, “I’m not ready”? For the umpteenth time already. Does it mean that I am selfish? Probably. Sue me.

Mz.Virgo, who is content with life and a cocktail and believes that there is nothing wrong with me after all. (And more than just a “gossip blogger”.)
