When I read that Star got tired of picking up the tab as possibly the reason why she filed for divorce, I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, I’m like, good, she finally realized that he’s a golddigger and she is doing the right thing. (Never mind the obvious reason that I and the other bloggers have observed.) On the other hand, I’m like, wait a minute. Wasn’t he a stockbroker? What happened to that job, did he quit? He knew that she was successful, having been on “The View”, so was Star Jones his meal ticket?
When a successful man buys a woman material things or pays her bills, he’s labeled a “trick”, a “sugar daddy” or a “Captain Save A Ho”. The woman is labeled a “golddigger”. When a successful woman does it, she’s a “sugar mama” or some lonely woman who just wants companionship. But what do we label men like an Al Reynolds or a Jonathan Plummer (Terry McMillan’s gay ex) who unapologetically leech off of successful women and shows no remorse?

Is there a hidden agenda or a motive as to why a man would want an independent, successful woman? We hear men say, “I’m not intimidated by an independent woman.” “It’s not a problem that she makes more money than me,” and so on and so forth. I watch these male comedians joke about how they like an independent woman, because that means that they don’t have to contribute to anything. They can just sit back in her fancy house, drive her fancy car and not do anything because they know that the independent woman will take care of it all. All the man have to do is provide the dong.

So is it “tricking” if a woman is paying a man’s way and he isn’t reaching for his wallet at all? Or are men doing what women have been doing for years, being a golddigger?
