You must not know ’bout me.
Aretha is throwing a hissy fit when Beyonce introduced Tina Turner as “the Queen”. Here is an excerpt:
“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.” People.com
Talk about SCANDAL!!!!
But am I missing something?
Didn’t Beyonce name drop Aretha along with some other female singers in her intro to Tina? Was THAT not good enough for Ms. “R-E-S-P-E-C-T”?

Aretha’s name was mentioned in Beyonce’s tribute/intro to Tina Turner, second to Sarah Vaughn.
Or am I going batshit?
My overanalytical and nitpicking tendencies rear its ugly head. Aretha needs to stop it and let someone else shine. Beyonce said she looked up to and idolized Tina, so that is her role model. Why should Aretha feel like that was a cheap shot? Aretha should be grateful that someone decades younger than her even name dropped her name.
Divas (and divos) are running around acting like the world owes them something. The only things we should be doing is buying their album (or downloading it) or paying to see them perform. They should be grateful for that, but nooo, that’s not good enough for them. They want MORE!
So to Aretha, I do not mean any disrespect to you, but please check your ego at the door. Check it real good. Don’t get all Kanye West on us, it’s not cute.

I think Aretha felt slighted b/c Beyonce called Tina Turner “the queen” when in actuality she isn’t the queen of soul, hip-hop soul, raunch, rock, etc. Everyone knows that Aretha Franklin is still the “Queen of soul”, and Beyonce probably made an honest error in calling Tina Turner “Queen.” She’s an enduring artist & that’s great to see, but don’t no one throw down like Aretha Franklin to this day. I will say that I wish Aretha would cover up those monstrous arms of hers. Aretha does have a right to be upset somewhat b/c that misunderstanding could transfer to youth who have NO idea who she is. Therefore it would’ve been proper if Beyonce just called Tina Turner “my idol.”
